Solties have developed a cost-effective roof integrated solar tile system that encourages easy adoption of renewable energies and accelerates the green building market. The solar industry is limited to a utility scale central power generation model. A highly differentiated product is required to disrupt this model and provide accessible solar power for the residential market.
The EU is currently installing less than 100,000 residential solar roofs per year; this needs to increase to 3,000,000 per year to avoid worst scenario climate change. Current roofs use large utility scale panels which are often complex to install and a very capital intensive process. Soltiles’ proprietary technology minimises power generating costs for the property owners while improving aesthetics of the buildings.
Soltiles’ initiative is a molded tile installed on roofs like a standard roofing tile. Installation can be undertaken by any roofing contractor. The patented product incorporates 50% lower cost, a ‘plug and play’ interconnect system and is unique by incorporating both crystalline and thin film technology. The thin polymer composite membranes improve flexibility and versatility of the substrate, while the PV cells used have 20+% efficiency. The technology has been experimentally validated and soltiles have been proven to yield more than 90% of the absorbed energy from the PV cell. Soltiles targets the residential and re-roofing markets to promote the development of net zero energy homes.
