14 December 2022 - online
Time: 10:00 am - 11:30 am CET
After the success of the first appointment of our Alien Investor Days, we are thrilled to announce the second edition of this series of events dedicated to connecting our network of selected companies with investors.
This exclusive event will focus on Sustainable Innovation and it will bring together 5 selected top-class companies that have been recently awarded a € 2.5 M non dilutive grant from the European Commission (through the EIC Accelerator funding scheme) and are looking to raise further funding, between € 2 - 15 M.
During this 1 hour 30 minutes e-pitching event, the following startups will present their innovative business cases in front of selected panel of Investors.
Dracula Technologies, France
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are one of the most important electrochemical energy storage system for IoT devices (in 2015, 5.6B LIBs were sold worldwide). However, lithium mining is extremely damaging to the environment and it harms the soil and causes air contamination. Dracula Technologies has developed the LAYER, the green alternative to LIBs. The LAYER® is an OPV module produced through inkjet printing that generates energy from ambient light and that is specifically designed for IoT devices, such as smart home tools. It consists of 2 electrodes,2 interfacial layers and the active LAYER®, made of organic raw materials (semiconducting organic molecules or polymers, fullerene derivatives, non-fullerene derivatives). It is less than 5mm thick and its power conversion efficiency (PCE) under outdoor and indoor illumination is respectively 12% and 25%.
Magment, Germany
In the EU, transportation of goods generates about 28% of total CO2-emissions and consumes 37.5% of total EU energy production.Current intra logistics systems include internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and EVs. However, the incorporation of charging infrastructure for EVs in logistics comes with cost and challenges. Within this context, the MagCharge is a unique solution that offers a combination of inductive wireless charging technology with the robustness of concrete, which is vital for industrial applications. The MagCharge core element is the MagPad, a wireless power transmitter pad made using Magment's patented magnetizable concrete material, which consists of a coil for inductive transmission whose efficiency is >95%. It is also perfectly suitable for inductive charging roads as it works with any cover layer (both concrete and asphalt).
Aquabattery, The Netherlands
AquaBattery is a revolutionary battery storage technology that offers unlimited storage capacity, inexpensive scaling and is 100% sustainable. AquaBattery is based on a simple principle: input renewable energy, store it in seawater, then return electricity when there is energy demand. The core innovation is the use of seawater as a sustainable, safe and scalable energy storage medium. This is enabled by the company’s patented membrane stack technology that utilizes bi-polar membrane electrodialysis and reverse electrodialysis for energy storage and discharge. During the charging phase, saltwater flows through the membrane stack and produces an acid and base stream that is stored in tanks. During discharge, the solutions flow back through the membrane stack to generate salt water and release energy. With this disruptive solution, AquaBattery aims at revolutionizing the energy storage world, fostering the growth of renewable energy technologies and stopping the use of toxic materials.
Aviwell, France
Aviwell develops Direct Fed Microbials (DFMs), i.e. Nectar, that significantly improve commercially desirable animal growth and performance phenotypes such as Food Conversion Ratio (FCR) with both high efficiency and efficacy – resulting in greater food supply at a lower cost. Nectar is multi-strain, native, natural DFM. When fed to the animal in a single dose at birth (i.e. Natal Imprinted), it alters the trajectory of gut microbiome development and will dramatically decrease the FCR by 10-20%. In broiler chickens alone, this results in lower feed and water usage, a smaller agricultural footprint, while maintaining or increasing saleable meat yield. Additionally, Nectar will reduce the poultry producers’ time to market (via higher flock throughput) and improve their processing efficiency (via flock uniformity.) Aviwell will also commercialize its Discovery Platform, Aneto, to develop DFMs for other phenotypes and species to provide additional value to the agri-food market.
Reselo, Sweden
Current rubber sources are unsustainable. Existing rubber products are derived from natural rubber from the rubber tree. The problem with the source of this rubber is deforestation of tropical rainforest and competition with food production. Rubber plantations are threatened by climate change and are vulnerable to disease and environmental hazards. Almost the entire global supply of natural rubber – some 11 million tonnes in 2015 – comes from Southeast Asia. Scientists at Edinburgh’s Botanic Gardens estimated that more than 50% of plantations in the region might not be sustainable. The second source of rubber is synthetic fossil-fuel based rubber. It is mixed with strong chemicals during production. NORDIC BIO-RUBBER facilitates the transition of fossil-centered industry of today to a sustainable bio economy, allowing us to build a Europe based supply chain, decreasing dependencies on Asia for the production of consumer goods, which translates to a more robust economy.
