Due to population ageing, chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a public health problem affecting about 10 % of the adult population and leading millions of people to premature death. In the last stages of CKD, when the kidney cannot effectively filter waste from the blood, patients require dialysis. Haemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) can be applied.

Despite PD’s patient cognitive and functional outcomes, most patients still undergo HD in special clinics. The EU-funded Warrick X1 project aims to bring a great, revolutionary relief with the liberDi’s system – the first safe and portable PD system. It will offer simpler dialysis at home, reducing possible human errors and improving patients’ quality of life.
